TAMPA BAY – As expected, the Lightning announced on Wednesday that the team has bought out the contract of goaltender Marc Denis.
Denis was placed on waivers Tuesday. When no other team claimed him, Tampa Bay was able to buy out the final year of his contract at two-thirds of its $3 million price tag.
Denis played in 54 games in two seasons with the Lightning from 2006-08, posting a record of 18-23-1 with a 3.32 goals-against average.
Denis played in just 10 games with Tampa Bay last season and posted a 1-5-0 record with a 4.05 goals-against average. He was reassigned to Norfolk of the AHL on December 29, 2007.
The Lightning acquired the Montreal, Quebec native from the Columbus Blue Jackets in exchange for Fredrik Modin and Fredrik Norrena on June 30, 2006.
Denis was selected in the first round, 25th overall, by Colorado in 1995. After one season as a backup for the Avalanche, Denis was acquired by Columbus in 2000.
