"Ratatouille," 9 p.m. Thursday, Starz
Ever see a real rat? Not so cute. In your kitchen? Worse. In a restaurant kitchen? You'd run. And yet, you'll find yourself cheering for the charming Remy and asking yourself, "Mickey who?"
"American Eats: History on a Bun," 8 a.m. Friday, History
What's so torturous about a diet of bread and water? Not a thing, if you can change it up the way History does with this two-hour tour of crusty culinary contributions. Did "Scorecard Harry" really invent the hot dog? Did the Earl of Sandwich invent the sandwich, or was it just named for him? And who was the Italian immigrant behind the pizza craze? Grab an Aquafina, tune in and find out.
"Secrets of a Restaurant Chef," 9:30 a.m. Sunday, Food Network
Enough with the shows about bad-boy chefs! We'd rather watch the very nice Anne Burrelle translate yummy restaurant dishes into meals we can make at home. In this first episode, Burrelle shares "The Secret to Pasta Bolognese." And she smiles.
"Just Cook This! With Sam the Cooking Guy," 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Discovery Health Channel
OK, what's less appealing, a rat in the kitchen or zero beef in your burgers? Guess we'll find out. "Regular guy" Sam Zien will cook up tuna burgers, lamb patties with oregano and feta, and turkey sliders with grilled red onion.
