TAMPA - A natural gas leak near East 11th Avenue and North 33rd Street has been repaired, and it is safe for evacuees to return to the area, according to Tampa Fire Rescue.
The evacuation was called off about 6 p.m., Tampa fire Capt. Bill Wade said.
About five city blocks were under voluntary evacuation and nearly 30 people fled.
Advanced Communications, which was subcontracting for Verizon, was using a device to dig under asphalt to put in fiberoptic cable when the company accidentally damaged a gas line this afternoon, Tampa Fire Rescue spokesman Bill Wade said.
No injuries were reported.
