Plant's Gallon Signs With Central Michigan
TAMPA While the rest of his Plant teammates celebrated National Signing Day back in February, Cornelius Gallon stood in the back of the room in pain.
Gallon's sore knee, which ended his senior season prematurely, and his heart ached because he knew if not for the injury, he'd be celebrating along with the other seniors. Gallon finally got his moment Thursday when he announced he will be attending Central Michigan.
After eight months of rehabilitation from a torn ACL he suffered Oct. 26, Gallon was rewarded with a scholarship to the Division I school.
"There were some days during my rehabilitation when I wasn't sure if I could come back," Gallon said. "Some days, my knee just didn't feel right. But I knew if I kept working, I'd get to play college football eventually."
During his three years as a varsity player at Plant, Gallon caught 107 passes for 1,806 yards and 23 TDs. He also amassed 1,054 return yards and had four returns for TDs.
"Before, nobody thought about Plant," said Gallon, who had seven receptions and one TD in Plant's 2006 state title game. "We used to be an easy win on the schedule. Now you've got to come to work against us."
WILLIAMS SIGNS: Former Plant DL Jamar Williams signed a letter-of-intent to play at Fort Scott (Kan.) Community College.
As a two-year member of the varsity, Williams had 154 tackles, six sacks, 51 tackles for a loss, three forced fumbles and one TD. Williams was honored as Plant's Turnaround Student of the Year for his hard work in the classroom, which resulted in him raising his GPA nearly a full point.
"I went through a lot from my freshman to senior year," Williams said. "And I'm taking a lot of memories with me from my time at Plant."
