GULFPORT - A 14-year-old boy accidentally fired a gun this morning while showing it off to a friend, shooting the friend in the arm, Gulfport police said.
At about 9:30 a.m., Willie Ellis brought the .357 Magnum revolver to the home of Sean Campbell, 13, in Gulfport, Lt. Robert Vincent said. When the gun went off, a bullet struck Campbell in the arm, Vincent said.
Campbell was taken to Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg with an injury described as non-life-threatening, Vincent said.
Investigators were trying to determine where Ellis, of St. Petersburg, got the revolver, plus another one Ellis had brought to the home, Vincent said. They were also looking into the possibility that Ellis had brought the weapons onto the campus of Boca Ciega High School, which is closed for the summer, before he reached Campbell's home.
No charges have been filed.
