A Seffner man died Tuesday evening after drinking at least 23 shots of cherry-flavored vodka in less than an hour at a bikini bar, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.
About 5 p.m., Eric Morris, 26, was sitting with a friend at Angels Show Bar, 10101 E. U.S. Highway 92, said sheriff's spokesman J.D. Callaway.
The two were playing a drinking game, Callaway said, adding that he did not know the name of the game.
After a while, the friend decided to stop drinking, but Morris continued. When the bartender refused to serve him any more alcohol, Morris got up, staggered a few steps and collapsed to the floor, Callaway said.
Paramedics were called and Morris was rushed to Brandon Regional Hospital, where he was declared dead about 7 p.m.
Investigators area waiting on the results of an autopsy to determine the cause of death, Callaway said.
Morris was released from a Florida prison in March after serving about five months of a one-year sentence for burglary and theft convictions, according to the Department of Corrections.
