TAMPA - About 60 children attended a child safety education and anti-bullying program this morning at the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Recreation Center in Tampa.
The program was presented by "A Child Is Missing," a nonprofit group working in partnership with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.
"The goal is to make children more aware of their surroundings," instructor Loretta Grande said.
Among other things, the program is designed to teach children how to deal with bullying and how to stay safe on the Internet, Grande said.
Cory Smiley, 14, of Belmont Heights, said he saw examples of how to handle bullies.
"I learned about walking away and ignoring bullies and not to fight unless you tell an adult," said Smiley, who will be a Blake High School freshman in the fall.
The program has been taught at 24 sites in the area, Grande said.
