Regarding "What's Their Secret?" (Letters, June 26):
I can answer J.A. Banks' question quite simply.
A number of years ago I saw an interview with the CEO of Southwest Airlines. When asked why his airline was the only one which didn't have serious struggles after 9/11, he replied, "We put customers first, employees second and stockholders third."
It is the loss of this type of business thought which has so many American corporations struggling today. The American corporation and its executives have become so concerned with stockholders and executive bonuses, that they have forgotten what really makes a company work - customers and employees. Southwest's CEO said that if one places these two first on the hierarchy, then the third (stockholders) will automatically fall into place.
Customers and employees are what make American corporations function, not greedy, egotistical, overpaid executives and stockholders.
And, for the record, I'm a conservative Republican.
