BRADENTON - A 69-year-old man was killed in a crash on Interstate 75 this morning after he lost control of his truck and it veered off the highway, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
Robert C. Larson, of 3820 Oakhurst Lane, Zephyrhills, died at the scene near mile marker 219, between state roads 64 and 70 in Manatee County, the highway patrol said.
Patricia T. Larson, 65, a passenger in the 2002 Chevrolet, was taken to Manatee Memorial Hospital with minor injuries.
Traffic on I-75 was shut down for about three hours as investigators worked the crash and a medical helicopter responded to the scene.
According to the highway patrol, this is what happened about 10:17 a.m.:
Larson's truck was towing a camper on the southbound lane when he approached a slower vehicle in front of him. As Larson started to change lanes, he noticed another vehicle moving into the center lane.
Larson then steered his truck back into the outside lane but overcorrected. The truck left the highway and went into the emergency lane. When Larson tried to get back on highway, he lost control. The truck and the camper he was towing overturned.
