SAN ANTONIO - A fatal crash Sunday afternoon involving two cars shut down for several hours the southbound lanes of Interstate 75 near the border of Pasco and Hernando counties, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
One person died in the wreck and two others suffered minor injuries. The highway patrol did not release the name of driver who died Sunday night because relatives have not been notified.
According to the highway patrol, a 1998 Chevrolet Camaro driven by a 73-year-old moved into the center lane and was trying to pass a 2007 Chevrolet truck on southbound I-75, just north of St. Joe Road.
The truck, driven by Arnold L. Parker, 65, of Belleview, also moved into the center lane, colliding with the Camaro. The Camaro spun into the median, struck a guardrail, then bounced back onto the highway, crashing into Parker's truck, the highway patrol said.
The driver of the Camaro was pronounced dead at St. Joseph's Hospital in Tampa. Parker and his passenger, Shelly M. Parker, 64, were treated at the scene.
