China: New Talks With Dalai Lama Representatives

BEIJING - China's official news agency says that Beijing will hold a new round of talks with representatives of the Dalai Lama in July.
The Xinhua News Agency quoted an unnamed government spokesman as saying that China hopes that the Dalai Lama "would treasure this opportunity."
The spokesman said the talks would take place in early July but did not give a specific date. The last meeting was held in May.
Chinese authorities vilify the Dalai Lama, blaming him for recent unrest over Chinese rule in Tibet.
The Dalai Lama has denied these charges, saying he still supports a solution of meaningful autonomy for the Tibetan people under China's rule, not independence.
