PINELLAS PARK - One of four people injured in a crash that shut Belcher Road for about two hours this afternoon has died, police said.
Gisela Gordon, 79, "has died unexpectedly at the hospital" about 9 p.m., Pinellas Park police Lt. Paul Andrews said in a news release.
The cause of death was not immediately known.
The wreck occurred about 3 p.m. when a red 1994 Chevrolet Tahoe driven by Aaron Allen was traveling north on Belcher Road near 78th Avenue North, police said. A gold 2004 Dodge Intrepid driven by Marvin Cook was traveling south on Belcher and was turning left to go east on 78th Avenue.
Gordon was in Cook's car.
The front of the Tahoe struck the passenger side of the Intrepid and the SUV rolled over onto its roof, police said.
Allen, 22, of Pinellas Park, and Cook, 85, managed to get out of their vehicles. But Allen's passenger, Heather Allen, 25, Gordon were trapped inside their automobiles.
Firefighters spent 30 minutes extricating Heather Allen and Gordon. All four were taken to local hospitals to be treated for their injuries, police said.
Cook was issued a ticket for failure to yield the right-of-way to oncoming traffic.
