TAMPA - For $22,500, once again, God can walk among the people of Tampa.
After an agreement between prosecutors and a defense attorney, Judge Walter Heinrich Jr. today reduced the bail of 39-year-old God Lucky Howard from $86,500 to $22,500.
The unusual name has helped Howard to become somewhat of a media celebrity — with items in newspapers across the state and a quick mention last week on National Public Radio's "Morning Edition."
Howard faces eight cocaine-related charges including delivery of cocaine within 1,000 feet of a church.
Howard's attorney, Alex Stavrou, said he expects Howard to make bail sometime today.
Once out of jail, Stavrou said, Howard can make a decision on his future status as a game show contestant. Representatives of the Fox television show "The Moment of Truth" want Howard to make an appearance, Stavrou said. For the show, contestants are hooked up to a lie-detector test and asked questions about their personal lives.
Assuming Howard wants to appear and assuming his probation officer allows him to travel to California, Stavrou said he will let his client compete on the show. The only catch? Stavrou will make sure the show's producers don't ask Howard questions about the outstanding criminal charges.
