TAMPA - A Haines City man was sentenced today to 37 months in prison on charges of possessing equipment that was used to make fake documents and Florida drivers' licenses, the U.S. attorney's office said.
Ricky Reynolds, 50, pleaded guilty to the charge in March. Authorities searched Reynolds' home in April and found computer equipment and discs used to counterfeit driver's licenses, according to the indictment and the plea agreement in the case.
Authorities also found a large number of stolen mail items, and the names and addresses of those items were used to create counterfeit checks and licenses, prosecutors said. The bogus checks were used to buy about $27,000 of merchandise from local retailers.
