TAMPA - A lightning bolt has sidelined resurfacing on the Selmon Crosstown Expressway.
The Tampa-Hillsborough County Expressway Authority said a lightning bolt a few days ago struck the plant that makes asphalt for the expressway, throwing off its production schedule.
The authority, which is resurfacing lanes near the main toll plaza at 78th Street, announced it will halt that project until asphalt deliveries can resume, likely next week.
"We'll still be able to get it done by late July," authority spokeswoman Sue Chrzan said. "They have to make sure they have the right mix, the right consistency of materials at the right temperature."
In addition, on Tuesday, one of the local lanes will be closed in the westbound direction from 22nd Avenue to Kennedy Boulevard from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. to allow crews to work on lighting.
