TAMPA - Sam Seltzer's Steakhouse, which opened its first location on Dale Mabry Highway in 1995, filed for bankruptcy Friday.
The petition for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection filed by Sam Seltzer's Steakhouses of America Inc. lists the company's 10 locations, all of which are in Florida. Most of the restaurants are in the Tampa Bay area, including locations in Tampa, Clearwater, Brandon, St. Petersburg and Port Richey.
In 2005, the chain announced an ambitious plan to expand across the state. It secured $11 million in financing and talked of opening another 30 restaurants in the next five years.
But the slowing economy took its toll. This month, the company closed its Lakeland restaurant, opened in 2006.
