Operation Shoebox
The Community Service Council of West Pasco is collecting grooming, everyday and comfort items for U.S. troops overseas. Those include toothbrushes, toothpaste, powdered drink mix, canned fruit, cereal, deodorant, hairbrushes, bar soap, sunglasses, sunscreen, eyedrops, cushioned socks, batteries and plastic knives, forks and spoons.

Hernando-Pasco Hospice
•The Hospice Thrift Store & More, 6528 Massachusetts Ave., New Port Richey, will have a red, white and blue sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday. Customers will draw a chip at checkout to take 10 percent to 25 percent off a purchase of $5 or more (not including tax). The store's inventory includes clothing, furniture, collectibles and jewelry. •Hospice 101 is for teens and adults who would like to volunteer for activities not involving patient care, such as special events, office projects, thrift store work or crafts. The training is from 1 to 3 p.m. July 10 at hospice's Hudson office, 12107 Majestic Blvd. Completion of a volunteer application and pre-registration is required. Gulfside Regional Hospice
•Who knew getting groomed could be a good deed? Fantastic Sams, for one. The salon at 8532 Ridge Road in New Port Richey, in partnership with Gulfside Regional Hospice, is having a Haircuts for Hospice fundraiser on Tuesdays in July. That means 10 percent of all regular priced services or products will be donated to Gulfside. Fantastic Sams is open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesdays. For details, call (727) 849-5075.
•Gulfside Thrift Shoppes in New Port Richey, Hudson, Dade City and Zephyrhills plan these July promotions:
Hudson, 12154 U.S. 19, (727) 861-4900 - Christmas in July sale starts Tuesday. A hot dog roast is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday. All merchandise is half off that day. And every Wednesday, clothing is 50 percent off.

All Gulfside Regional Hospice Thrift Shoppes are open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays. They will be open during normal hours on the Fourth of July but closed on Saturday.
Donations are accepted up to an hour before closing. The stores welcome "gently used" antiques, furniture, jewelry, linens, handbags, artwork, housewares, electrical items in working condition, books, children's items and clothes. Pick ups can be scheduled for larger items.
•Volunteer orientation is from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. July 8, 9 and 10 at the Dade City office, 37826 Sky Ridge Circle, and July 29, 30 and Aug. 1 at the New Port Richey administrative offices, 6117 Trouble Creek Road. Tasks include giving caregivers a break; making phone calls to survivors; doing office or thrift shop work; cooking; assisting Hospice House patients and their families; and staging events like Hike for Hospice in November. CARES Elfers Center
The Community Aging and Retirement Services center at 4136 Barker Drive in Elfers needs help in the thrift shop. Each volunteer is asked to commit to at least one shift per week. For details, call (727) 847-1290.
