RIVERVIEW Brian Sterner popped into the media spotlight last month after a video showed him being dumped out of his wheelchair by a Hillsborough County detention deputy. The quadriplegic man said the system was corrupt and out of control.
But today, Sterner called Hillsborough County deputies to his Riverview home for help following an unrelated incident, sheriff's spokeswoman Debbie Carter confirmed.
On Feb. 7, a person found some of Sterner's paperwork in a drainage ditch and returned the papers to him, Carter said. Today, Sterner spoke with a 14-year-old neighborhood boy and asked the boy whether he stole the papers.
"I guess the kid admitted to it," Carter said.
Sterner called deputies at 5:40 p.m.
Carter said Sterner wanted charges pressed against the boy and that the boy will, in fact, be charged with petty theft.
Sterner declined to comment this evening about the incident.
