Narzissenfeld's Return Could Lift Holy Names

Published: March 12, 2008

The Academy of the Holy Names girls tennis team has won two straight matches to improve to 4-5, and Coach Allen Liberato hopes the winning will continue with the return of Melissa Narzissenfeld.

Narzissenfeld has been sidelined with a back injury, but, according to Liberato, is expected to return to action in AHN's next match March 19 against St. Petersburg Catholic.

"It would be huge to have Melissa back against St. Petersburg Catholic," Liberato said. "She needs to play against our district and get back to playing so she is prepared for the district tournament."

Liberato said Narzissenfeld will face teammate Bianca Roberts on Monday to determine who will be the team's No. 1 for the remainder of the season.

"This is a big deal for them," Liberato said. "But it's also important for us because we also need to get our chemistry right in our doubles combinations."

GETTING BUSY: Plant's Joel Samaha (1-0) hasn't had a busy schedule this season for the Panthers (5-0). Coach Michael McWilliams said he anticipates Samaha's season to pick up when the team faces Chamberlain on Thursday.

McWilliams did say he has been impressed with the play of freshman Brenton D'Adamo, who has moved into the team's No. 3 position. D'Adamo is the younger brother of former Plant player Jeff D'Adamo, who, along with Samaha, won the 2005 Class 3A doubles state championship.

SEEING DOUBLE: Newsome's girls team's depth is keeping the Wolves perfect.

With a 5-0 record, seniors Alyssa Lafita, Kelly Ramon and Brekly Ballingham are leading the team in the No. 1-3 spots, and along with No. 4 freshman Jaci Watson and a rotation of No. 5s, have not lost a match or even a set this season.

Newsome will face Sickles, King and Plant in its next three matches.
