19 Schools Will Have No Bus Service on Friday

TAMPA - At least 19 Hillsborough schools will have no bus service Friday because of drivers taking personal days for Good Friday.

Freedom High, which once was on the list for having no bus service, will now have some service, although 11 routes have been canceled.

Liberty Middle, which was on the list, now will have some service but 10 routes have been canceled.

Martinez Middle and Ruskin also are off the list – it will have bus service.

Cypress Creek Elementary
Deer Park Elementary
Desoto Elementary
Dover Elementary
Hammond Elementary
Ippolito Elementary
Just Elementary
Lincoln Magnet
McKitrick Elementary
Northwest Elementary
Robinson Elementary
Schwarzkopf Elementary
Shields Middle
Sickles High
Simmons Career Center
South County Career Center
Walker Middle

Other schools will have bus routes canceled. Families should receive both a letter and phone message to notify them today.

Lisa Amos, assistant principal at Cypress Creek Elementary, said today several steps were taken today to address the lack of bus service tomorrow:

A message was sent via IRIS to the parents.

Children were greeted this morning and told not to go to their bus stops Friday morning.

The school sent a letter home with every child this afternoon.

Cypress Creek expects only seven classroom teacher absences tomorrow and all have been replaced by substitutes. School starts at 8:05 a.m.

All schools will be open at 6 a.m. for students to drop off their children early, and will stay open until 6 p.m.

"We are in good shape,"Amos said. "We have a plan in place. We're having parents come in tomorrow in the bus loop to accommodate more cars and greeting every child to learn how they're getting home."
