TAMPA -- A private vessel that sank overnight at a South Tampa marina was pulled from the water this morning, the Coast Guard said.

A small amount of fuel leaked from the boat but has dissipated. There were no reports of injuries.

A state Department of Environmental Protection spokeswoman estimated that about 20 gallons of gas leaked from the vessel, owned by Misener Marine, and a vessel tied to the sunken craft. Emergency responders put down absorbents and booms to contain the fuel, which burned off from the sun, spokeswoman Pamala Vazquez said.

The Coast Guard responded this morning to calls about a fuel spill at Tampa Bay Marina, 205 S. Hoover St., in Beach Park. An area resident said a vessel sank overnight at the marina and that an oil slick was being corralled by surface containment booms.

Reporter Valerie Kalfrin contributed to this report. Reporter Mark Holan can be reached at (813) 835-2102 or mholan@tampatrib.com.
