LARGO -- An argument over a man led to shots fired between two women early Monday, and additional charges were leveled against one of the women when deputies found she left four young children home alone to confront her romantic rival.
Reshonda M. Smith, 29, 12465 Monroe Court, Apt. 234, was charged with one count of attempted murder after she fired shots at another woman, Pinellas County sheriff's deputies said.
Smith also was charged with four counts of child neglect.
Deputies said the shooting occurred at about 1:30 a.m. Monday outside an apartment at 12490 134th Ave. N. Deputies arrested Smith within 10 minutes of the shooting, a report said. They found the children in her home asleep two hours later. The children, who ranged in age from 1 month to 7 years, were unharmed and taken into protective custody.
The incident began as Smith argued with 24-year-old Twanishia Woffard over a man. Woffard lives in an apartment where the shooting occurred. As the argument escalated, Woffard ran into her apartment. A short while later, she came back outside and saw the man over whom the two were arguing.
She called to him, and that's when Smith reappeared with a handgun and fired three to seven shots, deputies said.
Woffard was not struck by any bullets, but did suffer minor cuts from the flying glass of a nearby shattered car window.
