Lakeland Revival Attracting National Attention

LAKELAND - Dale Borgelt brought no X-rays to the Lakeland Center stage on Tuesday night - just pain, faith and a sheet of paper listing his date with a surgeon.

He stood before Todd Bentley, 32, a tattooed, body-pierced, T-shirt-wearing evangelist from British Columbia who is drawing crowds and international attention to Polk County.

"Lord, remove the tumor," Bentley shouted as he delivered a quick, open-handed blow to Borgelt's midsection. Borgelt fell backward, eased down by the evangelist's young staff members. A few moments later, after other healings unfolded above him, Borgelt stood.

"It still hurts," he told Bentley. Not as much, he added.

Whether healing in a medical sense is delivered here may be hard to measure, but more people each night are finding reason to believe and pouring into the 7,000-seat arena. The Lakeland movement, still in its first month, is drawing comparisons to the "Toronto Blessing" in 1994 and the Pensacola Brownsville Revival that fired up the next year.

Look for more of these hyper-charged events, led by charismatic healers with devoted followers, said Hank Hanegraaff, president of the Christian Research Institute.

"We're in desperate times, and we've got desperate people. And they're looking for a quick fix," Hanegraaff said in an interview from Charlotte, N.C. "But all they're getting is false hope."

Borgelt decided to seek divine help for his spinal tumor in Lakeland as he was watching TV at home in Omaha, Neb. He was tuned in to "The Florida Outpouring," as Bentley and his organizers are calling the event.

As he left the stage Tuesday, the crowd cheered. New people looking for miracles took his place. Hearing loss. Arthritis. Cysts. One wheelchair-bound woman walked with the help of two of Bentley's staffers and then took a few steps alone. "I feel good," she said. The crowd kept cheering and praising Jesus.

Back on the arena floor, Borgelt seemed dazed. "I do sense that it's better. But it's still there."

Will he go ahead with the surgery, scheduled today?

"I'm just going to wait and see what the Lord's going to do."

Never Something This Big

Bentley travels the world with his Fresh Fire Ministries "sparking revival fires and equipping the body in power evangelism and healing ministry," according to the Fresh Fire Web site.

But these weeks in Lakeland are different.

"Never have I been a part of something this big," Bentley said during an interview at Lakeland's Ignited Church, where the revival began.

Stephen Strader, the church's pastor, invited Bentley for a five-day stint, starting April 2. These revival meetings are common - for Bentley, Strader and others.

God had something bigger in mind this time, both men said, filling the atmosphere at the revival with holiness and commanding Bentley to stay.

"On the second or third night, we just looked at each other and said, 'We've got to extend it another week," Strader said.

"It's electric. It's tangible," said Bentley. "That's what people are coming for and also the notable miracles."

"It's like the day of Pentecost," said Brenda Copeland, of Lakeland, who has attended the events with her children and grandchildren. "We're living in perilous times," she said, and God "has told little Lakeland to throw its weight around."

Tuesday's meeting brought visitors from across the United States. Strader and one of Bentley's assistants have begun holding 10 a.m. morning services at Ignited. More than 85 percent of the crowd at one meeting indicated they were from out of town.

The momentum is understandable to J. Lee Grady, editor of Charisma magazine, one of the oldest and largest Christian publications. As the nation struggles with economic and political turmoil, "moral depravity" and the threat of terrorism, Grady said, "God is going to show up on the scene in a remarkable way and pour out the Holy Spirit on us."

"The Lakeland Revival is one manifestation of that."

Hanegraaff, of the Christian Research Institute, sees darker implications to what he terms "counterfeit revivals." He says participants leave believing they are truly healed, but back in the real world, they find nothing has changed.

"That's when they start thinking God has abandoned them or doesn't love them," Hanegraaff said. "The vast majority of what is claimed to happen in these revivals …doesn't happen."

Hanegraaff, host of the nationally syndicated Bible Answer Man radio show, said when large groups get together and are under the influence of song and repetitious actions, they get worked up into an altered state of consciousness.

"It makes them hyper-suggestible, where black becomes white. They obscure reality and enshrine absurdity."

A true revival, he said, starts with reformation in the pews – when believers have meaningful prayer, share the Gospel with others and learn the Bible.

Once they have a genuine transformation, only then can they impact the world, and "that's when revival breaks out."

Not Your Grandmother's Evangelist

True or not, something is breaking out this month in Lakeland.

The meetings quickly outgrew the Ignited Church and a larger Auburndale church. Monday night, it moved to the Lakeland Center. Friday, with the Lakeland Center already booked, the event will move to Joker Marchant Stadium, where the Detroit Tigers play spring training baseball. The meetings start at 7 p.m.

Mike LaPan, executive director of the Lakeland Center, estimated the crowd at nearly 7,000 Monday night and 4,000 to 5,000 Tuesday and Wednesday. Fresh Fire paid the Lakeland Center about $15,000 per day, said LaPan, who complimented the crowds for their behavior.

On Tuesday afternoon, Bentley's staff talked excitedly about inquiries from NBC and CNN. They said there is interest in the revival from someone affiliated with Benny Hinn, the Christian televangelist and faith healer who was born in Israel to Palestinian-Armenian parents and became a Christian as an adult.

"Wouldn't it be great if Benny came?" one staffer said.

Though he preaches to charismatic, Pentecostal crowds, Bentley said he's not culturally a part of any religious tradition.

"I grew up a drug addict," Bentley said. "I got saved at 18 in my drug dealer's trailer because I had an experience with God." His purpose, he said, is to preach intimacy with God. And that's what he says the healing services provide.

With tattooed arms and neck, pierced ears and chin and an intense, expressive face, Bentley looks and sounds the part of lost soul-turned-prophet of the masses.

"In a sense, Christianity has become this religious, organized structure," he said. "People are realizing that the power of God is real, that the kingdom of God is isn't just a bunch of people sitting around talking."

Bentley said not everyone is healed at the revivals and he makes no claims otherwise. His salary is paid by Fresh Fire, which also is covering costs for the events outside of Ignited Church. Lynne Breidenbach, a revival spokeswoman, said Bentley would not publicly discuss what he is paid.

No admission is charged to the events, but an offering is taken late in each session. Strader, the Ignited Church pastor, said the magnitude of the revival has proven a financial burden, not a boon.

"There isn't anybody making money," he said.

Grady, the editor of Charisma, said Bentley is not "your grandmother's evangelist" in a column he wrote last week.

"My feeling is that he was a very troubled guy before he found the Lord," Grady told the Tribune.

"I believe he is a genuine guy and has been used in many places since his ministry began. But of course, mainstream folks will consider him off the wall because of his appearance and background."

I believe a person can be healed by God. I also believe that one can pray for themselves, God hears all our prayers...the thing is...we have to have faith. I don't think we need to have someone else pray for us. But, that's my opinion! Sometimes we don't get what we pray for, God has reasons for all He does.

Think of all the times in your life you may have prayed and the prayers were answered, then the first time something goes wrong we think God is not responding and some of us lose faith. Remember all the prayers He answered and try to accept things the way God does them, later down the road we may see many reasons why things went the opposite way we wanted. Life is a mystery that we will understand when we meet God in heaven!

I am a Christian, but I am sorry, this is just PURE utter nonsense. Hysteria of the masses and another way for people to bilk the common folk like you and me out of money. The experts in this column quoted are right, these are desperate times. Every wacko out there is desperate to take our money. Especially the tele-evangelists and so-called healers. I believe also that God can heal...but I doubt he does it en masse at a planned "healing" seminar. Hang on to your money, people and give it to those deserving when you give it to charity. Your local church, your favorite charity, etc. This stuff makes me SICK!!

What is right for you may not be right for me and the other way around. Remember we are lucky enough to be able to practice in what we believe and that also gives us the ability to state how we feel about other religions. So bottom line is that if the people that go find what they are looking for more power to them. Remember God works in different ways. Miracles do happen today - not to everyone but I have seen it. A child was dying - the doctors had done all they could - they told her parents to prepare for her death - they took her from the hospital in an ambulance to the church where their was a visiting healer - she was cured that night - and has grown up - gotten married and is a living example of God's miracles.

I'm not sure why everyone is so worried about losing $. It is a choice. You don't have to give. But in regards to this event, I would rather be blamed for believing that God is big enough to do something crazy like this than to have to explain why I missed something that God was doing. Isn't that what the Pharisees did? They missed it because it didn't look right. When church history is studied, it's clear to see that most people missed the next move of God because they didn't want to be taken as a fool. The bible has some pretty crazy stories in it. This event pales in comparison to a lot of the Bible stories. Let's not be scared because it doesn't fit our boxes.

Nikita0029 I am surprised as a Christian you do not understand that generosity and and open heaven go together. I understand that man is fallible and many serpents come claiming Lord Lord but even God reserves till a mans life is at end or time done prior to issuing judgement. I am sure you have been jaded in the past but healing is mandated by Gods word and will always be available to those in covenant with God. He was wounded for our transgressions and bruised for our iniquities By his stripes we are healed. Accepting Christ in whom you have not seen with a free gift of salvation is so simple yet healing is more difficult to accept? Either you accept all the scriptures as Gods word or you dont. Healing is as much for today as in the old days. It seems that we have become so cynical that faith has such small place in ones life. (example : trust Jesus died for our sins and Rose again , but not that miracles and Gods word is truth . ) Beware a cold heart and burdensome mind everything in Christ starts with the mind of a child thus the confusion of the world to the truth......

May God help you on your journey :

ret_ed_irol ,

Oh to be sure my friend married to a preacher doesnt gaurantee you entrance to the Kingdom. Many will say Lord Lord and he will say depart from me for I know you not. Anyone can hide behind a title but so many preachers theses days have no faith. They are playing church and living in sin. They stopped listening to the shepherd and started keeping the sheep happy so they wont lose the congregation. I say again the Bible is the inspired word of God . And Not all whom state they are Christians will enter the Kingdom. Christian is Christ like and the road is narrow. Please dont hide behind your husbands title as a preacher and feel that justifies doubting the word of God. God is as real today as yesterday or prior to Jesus death and resurection. Doubt and unbelief are used by the enemy to trick Gods people in to placeny and unbelief. I will pray for you that God may open your eyes.

Concerned Brother in the Lord,
Lonnie

For the money? Keep your money.I'm sure missionaries risk their lives in third world countries because of the money.lol.
If you think it's fake go to god.tv or freshfire's website (no , I have no affliation with them. Did not pay anyone affiliated with them. I will however probably give money to a non-affiliated church.) Watch God change the nation. If you think it's fake then, everyone has their own opinion, like I am entitled to mine. And my opinion is that God is real and does miracles and can do them in masses. Why not? Why limit God? Or are we just stuck in religion, not expecting God?
Keep your religion. Give me Jesus.

"Hey John the Baptist we don't like what you wear, we don't like what you eat, and we really don't like what you preach." "Hey Jesus we think your crazy spitting on the ground and making mud rubbing it in peoples eyes." They didn't understand why God was moving the way He did, but that didn't change the fact that it was still God. When Jesus ask his disciples who He was Peter said "thou art the Christ the son of the living God" and Jesus replied "flesh and blood didn't reveal this to you, but my Father in heaven." So pray before you start criticizing God. Maybe God needs to open your eyes before you can see the truth.

I'm not trying to be a smart alec but I really did assume that people saw these camp meetings as a form of entertainment and that they'd be attracted to this more as a nostalgia thing since they're rather rare now. There are always a few people who will believe what they wish no matter what. Thats why there will always be prayer in public schools as long as teachers give tests. Its their right, but I really don't think many take this seriously. I just hope people who can't afford it don't get fleeced.

"That's when they start thinking God has abandoned them or doesn't love them," Hanegraaff said.

Perhaps they came because BEFORE they thought God had abandoned them and now IN FAITH are seeing thousands BELIEVING that JESUS is Lord !

Believing in "miracles" is simply attributing phenomena that are currently beyond man's understandiing, to a "God". The ancient Romans, upon being victorious over a foe who vastly outnumbered them, attributed the victory to their god Mars. This is the same type of nonsense. Man learns nothing as the ages pass, and these charlatans know it is an easy way to get rich quickly off of the backs of the masses.

It's amazing to me that everytime some people think of evangelists, they immediately thing of money. I have been at some of these meetings and the offering is usually barely taken. Ususally they barely mention it, pray and pass around buckets. They don't emphasize it or make a big deal of it! To think that anyone involved is just trying to make money is rediculous! By the way My wife was healed almost 4 weaks ago when the revival started and she is still healed! no false hope! God is real and is doing something in lakeland.

The name "Emmanuel"=God with us. To me this means God is with me all the time, God is also omnipresent, thus he's everywhere too. Jesus said, where two or three are gathered in my name, I will be with them(Matt 18:20).

So if God is already with us, why would Jesus say, when 2 or 3 are gathered in my name??... Jesus's nature was to do only what he saw his father doing, thus Jesus was telling the disciples that his glory and power and manifest presence is even more tangible when we come into agreement as a group in his name. Hence the day of Pentacost in Acts 2. Over 3000 were added to the numbers that day when the spirit fell.

It was prophesied that his spirit would pour out on all flesh. People were skeptics back then too, and thought they were all drunk, but Peter tells them it's 9am, that's ridiculous.

Maybe we should not look at the speck of sawdust in others peoples eyes, and notice the plank that is hindering our own vision. If God wants to heal people, and it doesn't settle in your soul because it isn't happening the way you want it. Ask yourself, are you GOD?

The enemies mission is to kill, steal and destroy, and I'm 100% positive that Jesus healed everyone that came to him, so if by faith, due to the works on the cross, my sins are forgiven, i also can be healed.
So if people want to claim healing, let them. I'd rather be happy like them, than be a synic, putting them down and fearing this "may not be God".

If we say that people will loose their healing after a meeting, then let God deal with them, he's the one that brought the change. I think we're all forgetting that we are only human, and again, the enemy is out to "kill, steal and destroy", so "doubt" is a good "killer" that the enemy uses, but it is not our job to see that they start to doubt, but instead to encourage our brothers and sisters in faith, to build them up, not destroy them.

So I say, let Jesus reign, and love your brothers and sisters. Everyone who writes on these comments, God has a plan and future to prosper you all. So why don't we start to encourage one another and see what Jesus did in the bible, or are you going to tell me that I can't raise people from the dead too?

We are all called disciples, and I don't need to be in a suit jacket and minister from the front to be one. So if Todd in his t-shirt, a follower of Jesus is testing out his faith and actively walking in seeing healing and miracles, we should congratulate him for taking a bold step of faith. It's much better than we are doing.

Jesus said, "I tell you the truth, anyone who has faith in me will do what I have been doing. He will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. John 14:12

And I'm pretty sure when Jesus performed miracles each one was different, he spat in a man's eyes and they were healed, he layed on top of a boy thought to be dead and he woke up, just by speaking the words get up and walk, a girl came back to life. See Jesus didn't have a specific polished way of healing people. So if Todd's way isn't the traditional way, then way to go, that's how Jesus did it!

My son, who is 8, and I were there...twice! His heart was healed as the preacher prayed. A woman we were standing near was blind when she came, and was able to see while he prayed for blind eyes to be opened! Another little 2 year old girl was healed of pnemonia. She pointed to her chest after she was prayed for and said in her little two year old voice, "Where'd it go, mommy?" Where'd it go?" That's just to name a few miracles!!! The biggest thing is the kids. They don't lie, and you'd be amazed at how many healings really go on at a revival like this. God works the same today as he did yesterday, when Jesus came, and forever. He is still able to show up and show off. These people aren't being fooled. They spend their first hour and a half worshiping God. Why wouldn't he show up and show off?! He is there at this revival in a BIG way.

for all you skeptics out there (including Christian ones!) Why don't you go see for yourself. Entrance into the stadium is free for you. You're not obligated to give a thing. What've you got to lose? =)

TO ALL OF YOU WHO HAVE POSTED THESE COMMENTS OF DISBELIEF, ALL I CAN SAY IF YOU HAVE EVER EXPERIENCED THE HOLY SPIRIT FOR YOURSELF, YOU WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO SAY THOSE THINGS. THE FATHER, SON, AND THE HOLY GHOST (WHOM MANY OF YOU CHOOSE TO LEAVE OUT OF THE TRINITY) ARE ALIVE AND REAL AND PRESENT JUST AS MUCH TODAY AS IN THE DAYS OF THE BIBLE.

PLEASE, "CHRISTIANS", READ YOUR BIBLES. IT'S EITHER ALL TRUTH OR NONE TRUTH. IT SAYS IN MATTHEW "GO OUT AND PREACH THE GOSPEL TO ALL THE WORLD, AND WITH THIS SIGNS AND WONDERS WILL ACCOMPANY YOU" AND ACTS 2 SPEAKS ALL ABOUT GETTING FILLED WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT, BEING "DRUNK" IN THE HOLY SPIRIT WHICH IS HOW IT FEELS WHEN GOD'S PRESENCE FILLS YOU, ETC. ETC..

YOU CANNOT JUDGE THIS OR SAY WHETHER IT IS REAL OR NOT IF YOU HAVE NOT BEEN THERE OR GIVEN GOD A CHANCE TO PROVE HIMSELF TO YOU. IN REGARDS TO THE ABOVE COMMENTS ON "HOPE"... THE CHRISTIAN DEFINITION OF HOPE IS "THE EXCITMENT OF WHAT IS YET TO COME" EX. "MY HOPE IS IN THE LORD"... NOT THE WORLD'S DEFINITION OF HOPE AS "MAYBE" EX. "I HOPE I WILL BE ABLE TO GO TONIGHT"

AND PER ABOVE COMMENTS FROM "CHRISTIAN", THIS IS NOT A SHOW JUST BECAUSE THERE ARE MANY AND IT IS BEING BROADCASTED...IT IS A MOVEMENT OF GOD AND IF YOU DOUBT GOD TO BE ABLE TO DO THIS, WHAT PEOPLE HAVE BEEN DILIGENTLY PRAYING FOR FOR YEARS, YOU ARE GOING TO HAVE TO TAKE THAT UP WITH HIM. PEOPLE ARE HUNGRY FOR GOD!! WE DESIRE HIM!! NOT DEAD RELIGION!! WE DESIRE OUR REAL GOD HIMSELF TO LOOK OUR WAY, TO TOUCH US, TO SPEND TIME WITH US, AND IT IS HIS GREAT JOY TO DO THIS!!! WE HAVE BEEN SEEKING HIM AND FINALLY HE HAS DECIDED THE TIME IS RIGHT!! PEOPLE ARE BEING SAVED IN THE STREETS, IN THE WALMARTS, IN THE HOTELS! ALL THE GLORY IS TO GOD!! THIS IS 100% BIBLICAL, SO DONT MISS OUT AND BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE TO GOD FOR YOUR DISBELIEF! TELL HIM "GOD I DON'T WANT WHAT IS NOT YOU, BUT I WANT ALLL THAT IS OF YOU, ALL THAT YOU WANT FOR ME! If you believe that God is God, then by that powerful definition HE can do anything. It stands to reason that HE would fulfill his promise to the faithful. Disbelief won't change that. May God Bless you!

to VatoLoco and the many here who deem these people as SICK (or whatever derogatory word you choose to fill in), people who are sincere, worshiping and believing in Jesus:

(John 9:39-41)
And Jesus said, For judgment I am come into this world, that they which see not might see; and that they which see might be made blind.
And some of the Pharisees which were with him heard these words, and said unto him, Are we blind also?
Jesus said unto them, If ye were blind, ye should have no sin; but now ye say, We see; therefore your sin remaineth.

Better to have a contrite heart here, rather than one standing in judgment!

All you naysayers-you know you want to go and check this out. I was skeptical too when I went this week the first time. But it's for real. It's a God thing and you have to go for yourself to see and feel the atmosphere. It's a powerful meeting and people are difinitely getting changed, touched, inspired, uplifted. An offering is not even taken until like 11 when alot of people have left. It's a shame we are all so jilted maybe because of past charltons and can't just put some faith in God. If you need something or somethng in your life is amiss, I suggest going; God is doing this for a reason for everyone. There are no pretenses there.

God gave us access to a lot of things through FAITH. Some people's faith is weaker because it is not exercised.

Just like the women in the Bible that said, "...if I could just touch the hem of His (Jesus') garment, I know I will be healed. That is, the level of maturity, where her faith was at. Some people believe that "if I could just get to that Todd Bentley meeting I will be healed." And they are!!

How many times did Jesus say, "your FAITH has made you whole!"? It takes faith to accept what Jesus did for us and allow him to change our life. It takes faith to receive His healing.

Are you willing to stretch your faith and see what happens?

To whatsit2Him- I have read that verse many times with many people, and If you search it out you would see that it means that those who are "blind"-never had the opportunity to know Jesus, are not guilty and God is just, but those who "claim to see"- who claim that they know God, or folow any other religion, but do not know Jesus, "their guilt remains".... please look up the many many scriptures on the Lord healing the blind instead of this one which is not being literal. "Jesus is the same yesterday, today, and forever..." He is healing the same today as he always has! The faith and expectation is high which is what causes it to spread!!

What I KNOW is that I have been forever changed - watching it over the TV, in Duluth, MN, nonetheless (who woulda thunk it?) I can't wait until the Spirit of God hits up here, changing the whole city and spreading throughout the region.

Of COURSE, it's your choice as to whether you participate (but I would HIGHLY recommend it if you want more JOY and a TRUE peace in your heart, and your entire life changed!)

For those of you that keep protesting that this is a false prophet/false revival....tell me, why does he give all honor and glory to God in Jesus name. Hardly possible if it was a true false anything. The word says:1 John 4
Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world. 2 By this you know the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is of God, 3 and every spirit that does not confess that[a] Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is not of God.

If you actually have heard Todd or been there, you will know that he gives glory and honor to Jesus.

And as far as those of you that live there, you're not the brightest bunch, obviously....your economy is better for all these 1000's of people that have come from all over the world. They are pouring money into your towns.

I hope when Jesus returns, you all aren't on here typing that the false prophet showed up. For YOU need to learn to discern on your own what is right or wrong. Hank H. or any other preacher or religious instructor is NOT going to be standing with you on judgement day. When God asks you why you called His move of God evil and wrong and made fun of it, I hope you are prepared with a good answer....for your souls sake.

1. For all of you quoting the bible and saying everything in it is the word of god, what about the stuff that says god forbids you to have tattoo's? Bentley has many of them. What about anyone who does work on the sabbath should be stoned to death? Are you in that group?

2. It is well known that belief in the supernatural is inverse to a persons intelligence and education. I will explain this to the slow pokes... the smarter you are, and the more education you have, the less likely you are to believe in the supernatural.

3. Bentley is the LAST guy you should follow. He dropped out of school in the eighth grade. He has juvenile arrests for drugs, for breaking and entering, and for CHILD MOLESTATION.

4. Strader says they are not making money. Bentley has a salary. Sorry but having a salary means you are making money. Why is Bentley's salary a secret? If you think it doesn't matter just remember that Without Walls Church was forced to reveal the kind of money they were making. $39.9 million in 2006 alone. Jesus is a cash cow fueled by the poor, desperate, and ignorant. If Bentley makes even a single dollar he should be thrown in jail for fraud.

If you really knew the bible you would know that the tattoo issue is under the law. If you read the scripture right above that it says not to shave your beard......so do you just pick and choose what verse you want to stand on?

Obviously, you don't know about the saving power of Jesus Christ who can change your life forever. There are a lot of things that I did before I was 18 years old that I wish I could take back.
As far as the money goes, do you go around telling everyone how much money you make? Just curious

You are making my point for me. So it is against the bible to shave your beard also. So Bentley shaved his beard and has tattoo's so he is now going against the bible in two ways.

By 'under the law' you must mean that you are taking some of the bible that suits you and throwing away the rest. Why accuse me of that when it seems that is exactly what you are doing? Make no mistake, the bible CLEARLY states that god forbids tattoo's.

As for the saving power of Jesus, trust me, I do not need Vishnu, Ra, Thor, Jesus, Zeus, Santa Claus, or any other imaginary friends to live my life in an honorable and just fashion.

And as for the money, I don't 'go around telling everyone how much money I make' but its no big secret either. If I were the head of a tax free and non-profit organization that took in money promising healing or contact with the supernatural then I would consider it a very fair question to ask. A lot of money goes into the pockets of these supposed healers. Go to Websters online and look up the word "fraud".

Catskill, (strange name) Please understand that this is what the bible is all about, forgiveness for our past. God does not look at the outward appearance of man, but at their heart. Tatoos are under the blood of Jesus. Our past is wiped clean. I am sure there is plenty you did in your past, or will be, that you hope no one brings up. Jesus came to heal the sick, not the healthy. You obviously think you are healthy, but we all know that is not true. WE all come short. WE all need Jesus!! I will pray your eyes are opened, because you too can be forgiven! Regarding if this is God or not, I think so. God is good. If you have ever tasted His presence before, you would know and understand. God first loved us!! He is faithful and just and wants the best for His children, even the Todd Bentleys of the world. Thank you Jesus!! It's Jesus that does the healing not Todd.

I find it highly amusing that you would tell the world how 'good' your personal god is. I think everyone knows that true christians believe that if you do not accept Jesus (and only Jesus) as your personal god and savior that you will burn in a fiery hell for all eternity. All your bible schools and missionaries that tell young impressionable children that they had better believe in Jesus or else they too will experience this horrible fate, well that is just cruel. I submit that scaring and bullying young children with damnation to hell is the opposite of 'good'. Maybe you yourself do not do this, but you are supporting the institution that does.

My advice to you is to get an education. Focus on science, because once you understand how the world around you actually works, you will find less need for imaginary friends and will be able to marvel at the wonders of the universe for their own sake.

I'm so sorry that you didn't have a good experience when you were a child and that it has left you with a bad taste about Christianity.
It happens.
But, you can be set free from your past, all you need to do is give it up and quit holding on to it. There is only one path to God and it's through Jesus Christ.

True Science really does show the wonders and workings of what God has created. There is no way to look at what has happened in this universe and still say there is no God.

You might say that here, but in reality, in the quiet of the night, in the harsh reality of living on this earth...you still call out to him in your heart. You want desparately to know that you know, he is there. He will show you, if you give him a chance.

I understand that your comments are sincere but I think you are making some assumptions which are not correct. I had a great childhood. The best. Therefore I do not wish to be set free from my past. And my 'bad taste' is not reserved for Christianity. Torturing children with threats of eternal hell is bad, but maybe not worse than teaching young children they will live forever in paradise by becoming a suicide bomber for Allah.

Science does not just show the wonders of the Universe, it EXPLAINS them. And the explanation is not God. I assure you that I look at, admire, and investigate the Universe everyday, and am confident in saying it does not require a God.

The harsh reality of living can cause fear and anxiety. The world can be a cruel and scary place. I urge you, however, not to look to false Gods for comfort. Look inside your own self. Find your own courage, and go out and do good deed's, not for some obscure supernatural beings approval, but because it is right and just.

You know I have 8 years of college in a science focused discipline, and I have come to realize that there is a God in heaven, He is all knowing and all able...I have also moved out of the finite mindset of my comparatively small understanding of the universe to confess that I will never be able comprehend how amazing God is...I also confess that in my old days I was wise, in what I thought was wise in my understanding of the scientific world...and discovered I was really foolish because I said that God, if He exists, is uninterested and certainly impotent if He did care in human affairs...But I encountered a real and relevant and all-powerful God who loves me and knows me and knows I fall and knows that I am needy and my human life is frail. And I also know that He is also able to heal, to produce miracles beyond my comprehension, and to part the Red Sea again, if He so chooses. So bless the name of the Lord and praise Him for healing those who have came to Him at Lakeland. And I won't criticize another person's ministry, because the Lord judges, not me.

For someone who claims eight years of college level education, your writing skills appear quite poor. Your post is revealing though. You mention being needy and frail. This I don't doubt. Substitute Jesus for the security blanket and inability to cope with life for the monsters under the bed.

When I first heard about the revival i was a skeptic. there are some Christians that believe in it and thier are some who do not believe in it at all. for someone to say that God has opened up heaven and poured His Spirit out in a profound way that is beyond our own expectations is a very serious and severe mark. The Bible speaks of truth and justice. The truth is because of sin being in the world we have to live with sickness and disease as well as the penalty of sin. But God brought justice to sin by Christ dying on the cross so we can not have to live in sin or the penalty while we are on earth or after we die. Healings were a sign of salvation to the body. But I came to a conclusion that this is the real deal. I was watching on the internet and the evangelist said if you need a healing put your hand on the screen to get your healing. I did and my hearing came back. 3 years ago I took a medication that made me lose my hearing fully. After about a week I only got it to about 60 percent back. As I was watching I felt the presence of God on me. The same presence you would read in the Bible and my ears had popped and my hearing came fully back but that's not all. My Psoriasis has been clearing up ever since then. I was covered through 80 percent of my body. It was because of this I was never able to become a Navy Seal. Which devastated me. It's cleared up to about 50 percent of my body today. I have felt the presence of God and gotten my healing and since it was at the comfort of my friends house there was no offering or money to be given. i would like to if I had the money to do it. But it's because of this wonderful salvation I have I can live without sicknesses and diseases. Praise God.

Why do people judge anything religious or spiritual on the negative and not the positive? There are people being healed at the revival. It's a fact if anyone cares to really check it out - something you probably won't do if your belief system is challenged. Not all are healed, not all are healed all at once (something everyone admits to btw). But there are way too many positive testimonies just to brush this off. Now with you non-believers, I can give you a break here -however I would encourage you to give Jesus a chance to change your life - He will if you are sincere. But to you Christians that deny the power God, I fear for you. Especially this "bible answer man" who obviously doesn't believe in the bible or Jesus Christ, who healed the sick, raised the dead, and cast out demons. I guess “the bible answer man” thinks people aren’t messed-up like this anymore. I guess in his theology the devil has just gone away and doesn’t bother people anymore. Take a look at the world – sickness, disease, drugs, hatred, violence, war – I’m sorry people, but we need healing and deliverance! Finally, There is a difference in knowing Jesus Christ as a historical figure and having an experience with Him - please people, seek the latter and He will change you forever. Sorry for the length of this post. Thanks for reading.

I am a normally a scoffer but I have been to see Todd Bentley...twice. Sometimes when people are healed, if they return to that sin that opened the door to their infirmity, the sickness can return. That's why its important they get into fellowship with other Christians and a good Bible-believing church.

Also, there are way TOO MANY miracles happening for this to be a hoax. Why don't you go and see for yourself rather than post comments without having been there. Maybe God has a healing for you too!!

WESTON, Wisconsin (AP) -- Two parents who prayed as their 11-year-old daughter died of untreated diabetes were charged Monday with second-degree reckless homicide.

Family and friends had urged Dale and Leilani Neumann to get help for their daughter, but the father considered the illness "a test of faith" and the mother never considered taking the girl to the doctor because she thought her daughter was under a "spiritual attack," the criminal complaint said.

The poor girls name was Madeline Neumann. She was 11 years old. A simple trip to the doctor would have saved her life. This is what blind faith in made up fantasy land leads to.

Dear Tribune,
I'm amazed at the levels of cynicism displayed by many of your bloggers. Is it that they WANT people not to be healed and dislike the idea that God might do such a thing?
Heres a story for you from Wednesday 30th April. A young friends, Sarah, who is a kids worker & Starbucks barrista was watching Todd Bentley on TV here in Radstock, England. Mildly curious, God's Holy Spirit started to flatten her in her room. She felt heat in her ankle and a sudden 'pop'. I didn't mention, she has a 3 inch metal plate in her foot and has had several operations to aligne a birth defect. She couldn't run & walked badly. She suddenly found she could fully rotate the foot with no pain. Next day she had a regular doctors check up - he was amazed and repeatedly said, 'someone with this contidion just can't do that!' (The doc had a tranee student with him who was delighted). Sarah is well fixed by God from 3,000 miles away.
So what if God uses a slightly whacky tatooed Canadian to preach the gospel? He is is allowed to you know? And hey, guess what, Todd didn't earn a penny from it!
As Jesus said, 'there are none so blind as those who WILL NOT see.'

Anyone who is bashing what is taking place simply needs to go and see for themselves. Once you have gone you will never be the same. Before you can publicly bash it and say it's false and the healings at not truely taken place see the looks on the people's faces when they have been blind or deaf from birth and hear or see. Look into the eyes of the children who have seen Jesus and tell them that it didn't really happen, that He didn't really heal them and they are still sick. One step into the arena and you can feel God's presence. If you go and still don't believe then you can say something. But after just reading an article you decide it's what too good to be true. Well it's not. Have faith and take your healing also.

Well, All I can say as a Christian this atmosphere of expectancy would recharge my faith, walk and hunger for more of God. I think it's awesome what's happening. People need to go to Todd's website and watch his podcasts and you'll understand him and the gift God has put on his life. He is just as shocked about what's happening in Lakeland as anyone. However he has prepared his life for the service of Jesus Christ by seperating himself to be used in whatever manner God needs him. You have to truly want to know the word of God and spend time listening to God for your life and your purpose each day. I believe Todd has done this and is a servant God is pleased with. What I like the most about this revival is Todds humility and acceptance of men of God to come and test the spirits of this revival from all around the world. He wants them there to testify it's God. He isn't arrogant about other men of God giving there opinions and Blessings in public about what God is doing in and for his people. It's like the Elijah anointing (The father) it's a double portion The Fathers anointing and his own that God has given him.
I hope I can go before God closes the revival.

The subject of tattoos has come up in our church more than once. If you will notice the command about not tattooing your body OR cutting your hair/beard was only if you were taking a nazarite vow. Also if you took a vow and said that you would not. Look it up, it's in the Word.

Come on guys, lets get real here. God is moving. Who cares who He is moving thru? Todd is just a vessel that made himself available and is continuing to make himself available. GOD IS MOVING! And if it takes something like this to tune in the country, well good! We have been praying for God to do something to open up the blind eyes!

And to Catskill, Dude, you are not making a very good argument. There is no sense in anything that I have read in any of your posts. Seems like maybe you need a higher education, maybe theology. My point was only to show that people pick and choose what to believe from the Bible. I was using a simple example for the sake of expediency.

I don't actually intend my posts to be an argument. I just want anyone who reads the posts to see that there is at least one person on tbo.com that does not believe in imaginary friends, witchcraft, or Santa Claus (add Jesus, Allah, Thor, Zeus, etc). I don't need to attend a revival any more than I need to travel to the North Pole to find out about Santa.

I am not arguing because I already know that 'faith' is the opposite of reason. Argument implies acceptance of reason, but faith requires the rejection of reason. Anyone who is here proclaiming 'faith' does not want rational thought, they want to reject it.

p.s.- Theology is not a valid subject, it is only a fancy word for mystical rubbish.

I believe you meant "jaded", which so many posters here seem to be... but "jilted" ironically also works well, for many are behaving as if they've indeed been jilted!

And to jcahoon6:
If you look deeper into John 9:39-41, the guilt OF a Pharisee is that much more severe BECAUSE they claim to know Jehovah!
Jesus is pretty upset with religious know-it-alls. He has grace for those who don't deny their blindness. Hence my caution to be contrite rather than so full of judgment.

If you search the Scriptures for only what is rather literal, you never allow the Holy Spirit to speak to your heart with any revelation. And that is not a living relationship with a Living God; it's dead.

Faith and high expectation IS what our walk with the Lord is about. So bring on the excitement!

*ergo, not BLIND faith... faith being a GIFT that is given to the HEART over the mind ~

One last comment: try telling your heart to be quiet when you've lost a loved one. You can rationalize all you want, but your heart won't necessarily "behave". You simply have to let it live (unless you've already killed it through choices you made in your life)!

The heart is really where faith lives...

Wow! Talk about trying to be scathing...I will tell you that my science focused discipline is in medicine. Didn't feel the need to mention that because it really doesn't matter. As far as writing skills, I have been published in journals and national publications, but don't feel the need to elevate that either, and don't feel the need to write in an evidence-based format here. And as far as where I was, it was a hard place to be, but now I can go toe-to-toe with the best...but again, it doesn't matter, because Christ is who I am and nothing else matters...all the initials behind my name, all the publications, and all the honors that man has placed on me, don't matter one bit...and neither does your scathing comments, because who I am isn't based on man's approval but on God's and His alone. So praise be to Jesus.
