Police initially arrested Haggerty on charges of dealing in stolen property and grand theft of metal from a Pinellas Park business.
After he was arrested, he said he was suffering from a leg injury due to an unrelated incident Wednesday, police say. He was taken to Northside Hospital so he could be evaluated by hospital staff.
He escaped the hospital about 4:03 p.m. Thursday, according to police.
Officers searched with dogs and used the help of the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office Aviation Unit.
Details of how Haggerty escaped weren't immediately available.
Detectives received a tip today that led them to Haggerty's home.
"Haggerty was observed exiting the residence and after a brief struggle, he was taken into custody," a police release states. "Haggerty was in possession of cocaine and drug paraphernalia at the time of his arrest."
Haggerty was booked into the Pinellas County Jail. His bail had not been set today.
