DADE CITY - Despite a three-run advantage for Nature Coast in the second inning, Pasco stormed back on a furious pace, collecting a 12-3 victory in the Class 4A-Region 3 semifinal, dispatching the Sharks and setting up a showdown against Palatka next Friday and Saturday in a best-of-three game series. This was the fourth victory this season Pasco (25-5) notched against Nature Coast (21-7).
There was plenty of praise to go around for the Pirates, starting with catcher Jorge Jaramillo. The junior cranked out five hits and collected six RBIs, including the first three runs for Pasco, which came on a bases-loaded double to right field, tying the game at 3 in the bottom of the second inning.
"I was just trying to be patient," Jaramillo said. "I wasn't going to hit the pitcher's pitch, I was going to hit mine."
That 3-0 hole was the first time the Sharks enjoyed an advantage in the series. That said, it didn't appear to bother Pasco.
"I knew if we held them down, then our bats would come back, and they did," Pasco coach Ricky Giles said.
Pasco pulled ahead, 5-3, in the third on Jaramillo's single, which scored Aaron Brandt and Tyler Brock.
Dylan Giella homered to right field in the fourth, extending the lead to 6-3. Two batters later, Henry Johnson, who took the mound in the second inning to pitch for the Pirates, singled to right, driving in Dustin Brown.
"Twenty-one wins is nothing to hang your head about," Nature Coast coach Bob Shepard said. "They did a great job."
