CHARLOTTE — Sheriff's deputies arrested a 19-year-old man on Saturday after he was accused of using a 34-inch-sword to threaten a man at an industrial park.
Adam Laurence Martin went to Allied Recycling in the Whidden Industrial Park in Charlotte Harbor in March.
The manager told deputies that he had just given a customer cash in exchange for aluminum when Martin told the customer to give him the money.
The customer refused, so Martin went to his pickup and returned with a sword, put it to the customer's chest and again demanded the money, authorities said. The man refused, and Martin pulled back the sword as though he were going to swing, a sheriff's report states.
The customer tackled Martin, knocking him to the floor, and another customer was able to get the sword away, the report states. Martin ran to his pickup and drove away.
Police arrested Martin on Saturday and booked him on suspicion of attempted robbery with a deadly weapon. He posted $10,000 bail and was released.
