"Top Chef: Chicago," 10 p.m. today, Bravo
A couple of dicey weeks had Clearwater Beach native Spike Mendelsohn on the chopping block, but he has been able to fly under the judges' radar in recent episodes. This week, he and the other remaining contestants have to complete a culinary relay race, then cater a high-pressure wedding at which pastry expert Gale Gand will be judging. If the promos for this are any indication, the show's editors are going to run out of bleeps for the censors.
"Rescue Chef," noon Saturday, Food Network HD
This show, in its first season, helps everyday cooks who are experiencing personal culinary challenges. In this episode, host chef Danny Boome helps a home cook re-create her mother's chicken-and-seafood gumbo recipe. Zucchini bread is served on the side.
"Hell's Kitchen," 9 p.m. Tuesday, Fox
In this very special episode, chef Gordon Ramsay locks the nine remaining contestants inside a Sub-Zero walk-in cooler to test their survival skills, then warms them up by setting them on fire and cursing them out. OK, everything about that sentence is false except the cursing. The test this week is a blindfolded tasting, with a spa trip as a reward for the winner. Ramsay then gets to decide after service whether to sack someone for poor communication or for serving raw food.
"Deadliest Catch," 9 p.m. Tuesday, Discovery
King crab season comes to a close, and the crews' financial livelihoods depend on boat captains finding the last pots of crustaceans that will put them in the money. The Time Bandit cleans up, but the crew and boat are the worse for wear. Bring on the opelio!
