VENICE - A motorist hit a building and a pedestrian, sped through a neighborhood at 65 mph and was eventually shocked by an electronic control device during a pursuit late Monday, authorities say.
Police arrested Scott M. Thames, 41, after he led them on a short chase that began at a convenience store on Swift Road, according to arrest reports. Police used Thames' vanity license plate – "EXTRME1" – to figure out who was driving the Ford Mustang.
Thames crashed into Lee's Food Store, clipped a pedestrian and took off, investigators say. He was spotted near his house on Williamsburg Street and hurtled his Mustang around squad cars as he raced down Colonial Drive, Nutmeg Street and finally New England Street.
Thames swerved into a yard, got out and ran, according to reports. He was felled by an officer's Taser and charged with aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, possessing a crack pipe and fleeing to elude police.
The identity and the condition of the pedestrian were not immediately available.
Thames was injured after the chase, and is seen in a jail mug shot with a black eye and a deep cut to the bridge of his nose.
