PLANT CITY – On Monday, Jacksonville Eagle's View junior pitcher Sara Ketchie asked to be taken out of the Class 1A state semifinal game against Lake Worth Christian, which the team won, 4-3.

She hoped to redeem herself if given the chance to pitch in the state title game on Tuesday.

Ketchie didn't disappoint, throwing a no-hit shutout, her second of the season, to lead her team to a 10-0 six inning win over Lake Mary Prep at Plant City Stadium. The triumph also marked the program's first state title.

"I knew my defense had my back the whole time," said Ketchie, who finished with nine strikeouts and one walk. Ketchie spoiled a possible perfect game when she walked the first batter in the first inning.

"We didn't have to work too hard, Sara did all of the work for us," Eagle's View coach Willie Evans said.

The Warriors (18-12) finished with eight hits, three by freshman outfielder Brittany Silcox, who also had three RBIs. Lake Mary Prep (26-1) committed eight errors, four of which occurred in a six run, third inning for Eagle's View.

"We just did with whatever was given to us," Evans said.

"We wanted to capitalize on their mistakes," Silcox said. "When they broke, we were able to get more."

Lake Mary Prep coach Warren Brooks called it "uncharacteristic."

"We didn't have it today," he said. "We haven't played like this all year. I know they're disappointed and I'm disappointed for them."

It was the third consecutive trip to the state tournament for Eagle's View and first state championship appearance.

"A lot of hard work got us here," Evans said.
