Pasco County sheriff's detectives have arrested a man they believe ran over and dragged a fellow deputy Monday morning, sheriff's spokesman Kevin Doll said.
Brian Patrick Mitchell, 27, was arrested at the same Port Richey apartment complex where Deputy William Orndorff stopped a GMC Envoy for going 65 mph in a 45-mph zone at Embassy Boulevard and Jarman Lane at 4:19 a.m. Monday, Doll said.
Mitchell was charged with attempted homicide of a law enforcement officer. He was apprehended at Park Place Apartments, 9310 Valley View, and taken to the Pasco County Detention Center in Land O' Lakes.
Detectives say Mitchell tried to grab the deputy's gun and then hit the gas pedal, dragging Orndorff before running him over, Doll said.
Orndorff, 26, was treated for a sprained ankle and bruises, Doll said. He has been with the Pasco sheriff's office since September 2003.
