VENICE - Three teenagers were charged with various crimes Tuesday after brawls broke out at a private Venice school for troubled students, according to Venice police.
The incident began at 2:36 p.m. at the Gulf Coast Marine Institute on Venice Island when two girls at the school got into an argument. An administrator physically restrained one girl and another student attacked the administrator.
"This series of events started the entire school to become engaged in the disturbance," wrote Venice Police Captain Tom McNulty in a press release.
When police arrived they gathered more than 30 students in the school's courtyard to make sense of the situation. McNulty wrote that one student refused to cooperate with officers and was arrested for resisting a law enforcement officer without violence.
The student who attacked the administrator was arrested for battery and one of the girls who started the initial argument was charged with disrupting a school function, according to McNulty.
