Medtronic To Cut 1,100 From Global Work Force

MINNEAPOLIS - Medical device maker Medtronic Inc. is planning to trim its global work force by about 3 percent, cutting 1,100 jobs, during the current fiscal year.
Spokeswoman Marybeth Thorsgaard said in an e-mail Tuesday that the cuts will come from Medtronic businesses that are no longer growing at previous rates. She said some manufacturing and research and development operations will be consolidated.
The Fridley, Minn.-based company has 37,000 employees worldwide.
