Deputies: Man, 81, Jailed For Molestation That Ended In '88

TAMPA - The woman told detectives he started molesting her when she was 5 years old and that the abuse continued for eight years.

Now in her early 30s, the woman contacted the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office in December to report that Harold T. Christian, 81, of 14926 Fisher Road, Tampa, threatened her as a girl to get what he wanted, including intercourse, sheriff's spokeswoman Debbie Carter said.

The abuse occurred from 1980 through 1988 in Hillsborough County, Carter said.

The woman's name was not released because this is a sexual assault case.

When detectives talked to Christian in January, he acknowledged fondling her but did not confirm further abuse, Carter said.

The sheriff's office continued investigating, and on Tuesday afternoon deputies arrested Christian at his home on two felony counts of sexual battery using threats of force, Carter said.

Detectives filed the charges directly with the state attorney's office.

Christian was in Orient Road Jail this morning. No bail amount was set.
