PINELLAS PARK - A 19-year-old Pinellas Park man living with his parents was arrested and charged with attempted murder this morning after he choked his 28-year-old estranged girlfriend to the point of unconsciousness, according to the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office.
Jonathan Brogan was arrested at his parents' house, 6370 66th Lane N., about 3 a.m., Sgt. Jim Bordner said.
Brogan and his estranged girlfriend had argued over some items of hers that she said were in his possession, Bordner said. They agreed she should drive to his parents' house to get them, though he was under a court order not to have any contact with her, Bordner said.
The woman arrived at the home about 1:35 a.m., parked her car, walked up the driveway and encountered Brogan, Bordner said. They then discussed their problems.
She told Brogan she wanted to break up and turned to walk away, and that is when he choked her and threw her to the ground, Bordner said.
She told investigators she tried to feign unconsciousness and believes she lost consciousness, Bordner said.
She told investigators that after she regained consciousness, she got in her car and drove away, Bordner said.
Detectives arrested Brogan after speaking with her, Bordner said.
Brogan was uncooperative and was charged with resisting arrest without violence and attempted first-degree murder, jail records state. He also was charged with violating probation that was imposed in a burglary and dealing in stolen property case.
Brogan was being held at the Pinellas County Jail without bail.
