A van struck a stationary motorcycle at U.S. 41 and 56th Avenue West in Bradenton at 9:10 p.m. Tuesday and fled, seriously injuring the biker, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Martin Christ, 27, of Bradenton, was on southbound U.S. 41 and stopped for traffic when a Ford van struck him from behind, according to the highway patrol.
Christ, who was wearing a helmet, was taken to Manatee Memorial Hospital with serious injuries, investigators said.
The van fled north on U.S. 41.

Probably illegals.
And before you get all PC on me and say I should wait until we know the facts instead of making any assumptions, know that I've made these based on the odds. Illegals have been involved in these types of hit and runs at a much higher rate than whites. They are also busted for DUI at 3 times the rate as whites and often don't have drivers licenses and insurance.
So whether the guilty party here is ILLEGAL or not, my comments are 100% justified.
Best wishes that Mr. Christ is ok and has a speedy recovery.

If someone was close enough to see it was a Ford,
weren't they close enough to see and report a color?
Hope biker recovers, he wasn't doing ANYTHING wrong.

And this is why we want to have a motorcycle law that says that we cant go over a certain amount of miles per hour over the speed limit and no wheelies when these idiots in cars cant drive. a good percentage of the time its vehicles not bikes that are acting like idiots. please dont get me wrong im not agreeing in anyway with riding at excessive speeds and wheelies but lets think about the new proposed law. maybe there should be some penalties for the drivvers taht pull out in front of us, cut us off or just plain run us down.

JoeyG :
I was thinking the same but wasn't gonna say it, A Ford van in that area the odds are probably high...And if they were Illegals or DUI that could explain why they split...

I ride a bike, one of life's best pleasures, but have almost been wiped out a few times by totally inattentive drivers. The fact that Mr. Crist was at a standstill makes this incident very troubling: he NEVER saw it coming, HE NEVER HAD NO CHANCE.

Good for you (Joey G.) & (Landstrum). Supposedly having to be politically correct all the time is crazy. People need to start telling it as it is. If feelings are hurt, too bad. This poor motorcyclist IS the one that's hurting right now, along with HIS family and friends. What if he is crippled for life or dies? Will have being politically correct saved him? People need to call it what it is and stop having to bite their tongues all the time. Sick of it!

to "joeyg" - I understand your point, but there are white illegals as well. Your statement should have been "3 times the rate as citizens".

Not long ago my company vehicle was rear ended at University PKWY and I-75, The guy driving the truck that hit me was an Illegal with no FL Drivers License or proof of Insurance and the truck was not registered to him, Could not speak english and claimed the truck belonged to one of his "Relatives", The only ID the guy had on him was some kind of "Mexican Drivers License"...The Trooper wrote him some tickets and sent him on his way...Wonder if he ever showed up in Court or paid them?

Nationwide, and for many years, the statistics prove that 85% of car/motorcycle accidents are the fault of the car.

hootmon, In a percentage, please tell us the number of white illegals. I think it will be dangerously close to the number of white terrorists when compared to Muslims.

Landsturm - too bad for you. I enjoy riding and don't plan to give it up anytime soon. Of the 6 motorcycle crashes posted in the last week or two, there probably have been 3-4 times that many car crashes that didn't make the headlines. You're just as likely to die doing something else, such as crossing Gulf Bvld in St. Pete. Why give up something you love to do, unless you didn't enjoy it in the first place. Ride on !

Stop lying. Most of the time it is idiots like yourself who cause accidents.
Now, shut up.

My drug of choice is my bike...I would never give it up unless I was physically unable to ride. People that don't ride just don't get it....I get idiots cutting me off, swerving into me on a daily basis...I see more cars acting like morons though in general traffic then bikes...I hope they keep us up to date on this story..however, I did find it interesting that there are no alerts on any law enforcement web pages of this hit-n-run.....again, makin me angry for the fallen rider...

Seagoat_62 and PJC :
I really did enjoy it!!!...My last bike was a Yamaha RoyalStar, Big powerful bike...But let's say I had a "Near Death" Experience much like the cop that was killed last week, And by some miracle I survived it unharmed...Because I have a wife and son to think about, As well as figuring I used up the last of my "9 Lives" - Felt the need to give it up...
When I see a bike I will give'em plenty of space, But that only lasts till another idiot driver cuts into that space and starts tailgating the bike - You guys ride safe, and I'll do my best to watch out for ya...

DaveD1968, give me a break! This article is about a motorcyclist that was hit while stopped, so I'll speak for the cyclists family and say you shut up! Clearly, you don't realize there are bad people with bad habits causing these accidents, they drive cars, trucks, suv's and motorcycles. So don't try to say it's motorcyclists that are the idiots because I bet you drive an auto!

thank you aquaholic and as for you Dave V 1968 im sure you are the perfect rider in your automobile never on your phone, wear your seatbelt, never speed even 1 mile over the speed limit and its jerk offs like you that have no darn clue as to what motorcyclists and auto drivers in general go thru on an hourly basis.people have bad habits. i have family and friends that have been in accidents due to NO FAULT of their own becuase some jerk in a car pulled in front of them in such a hurry to get to a dang mall to shop or somewhere stupid. slow the heck down and watch for bikes we have rights to. LOOK TWICE SAVE A LIFE. it could be your own but since your perfect im sure you'll never get in an accident and know everything. must be some type of doctor to assume just by reading my true post that im an idiot. TRUTH HURTS. my prayers are with the motorcycle rider and his family.hopefully he has no compliations from this IDIOT driver.

GF - There are at least half a million European illegal’s alone which is ~4%. Yes it is a small percentage, but the world is only 8% White, and most of those whites live well above half of the population of the world that lives on less than $2/day. The Point was it could have been left at "Illegals" and made the point without the racial implication. It was a racist comment, and there is too much of that already. I'm not for PC, but I'm also against playing the race card when very little facts are known.. I'll keep wearing my hata blockas

to DaveV1968:
The majority of cager/motorcycle accidents indicate the cager at fault. Yes there are those motorcyclists that drive crazy (We call them Organ Donors) but even if they hit a car, the cager is rarely injured, no so the other way around. For a list of recent SUV / Motorcycle accidents see- http://www.spokentruthmm.org/content/view/49/2/

THIS IS AN UPDATED POST - NOT SURE WHERE THEY ARE GETTING THIS INFO FROM - but from a bradenton paper on line.....
The Florida Highway Patrol is looking for the driver of a 1996 Ford van that struck and seriously injured a motorcyclist Tuesday evening, at about 9:10 p.m. on U.S. 41, 100 feet South of 56th Avenue West.
An FHP report said a 2005 Suzuki motorcycle, driven by Martin B. Christ, 27, of Bradenton, was stopped for southbound traffic on U.S. 41 in the left lane.
A 2005 Ford van was behind Christ. The van failed to stop behind the motorcycle. The van's front struck the motorcycle's rear, ejecting Christ from his motorcycle onto the pavement.
How do they know it was a 96?? Weird...if ANYONE has info on Martin, PLEASE SHARE IT....I hope he is in stable condition or better!!!!!!
