Tree Trimmer Dies Of Electrocution In Sarasota County

A tree trimmer died from electrocution when his chain saw hit a power line this morning in Sarasota County, officials said.

At 8:43 a.m., the Sarasota County Fire Department and the Nokomis Fire Department responded to Bayview Road in Nokomis where they found the man unconscious about 25 to 30 feet up a tree, Sarasota Fire Assistant Chief Paul Dezzi said.

Rescue crews requested Florida Power and Light shut down power to the area so the victim could be lowered out of the tree.

Crews used an aerial apparatus to lower the victim. His name has not been released.

No other injuries were reported.

The Sarasota County Sheriffs Office and the county medical examiner are investigating.
