TAMPA - Three officers of the James A. Haley VA Medical Center police force have been suspended with pay after a patient accused them of verbal abuse, officials said.
There are no indications of physical abuse, said John Pickens, spokesman for the Department of Veterans Affairs in Tampa.
The incident occurred April 14 when the patient was being transferred from the hospital, 13000 Bruce B. Downs Blvd., to Tampa police custody. The patient was being disruptive, Pickens said.
The names of the patient or the hospital police officers were not released.
The investigation by VA officials is ongoing, Pickens said.
"We want our patients to know that they have a right to be treated properly and in a safe environment," he said.
