What's New Review/ Hot & Cold Therapy Wrap

Published: May 9, 2008

Torex Premium hot and cold therapy sleeve ($16.95 to $26.95, for sizes 3 to 28 inches, at torexhealth.com)

The pitch: "Roll a Torex sleeve into the desired position, and the entire circumference of the finger, wrist, elbow, knee, thigh or other body part can be treated at one time instead of in stages as required with a flat pack."

The skinny: Torex aims to get weekend athletes, therapists and just about everyone else to toss the bag of frozen peas in favor of its therapy wraps. Designed in a tube, the wraps roll onto your arm, foot or leg for 360-degree injury treatment.

When you're aching all over, say on your wrist or calf, this wrap is ideal. There's no worrying about shifting to treat the pain with a flat ice pack. Plus, you can move around.

As promised, the packs do not freeze up. The nontoxic gel in the wrap stays pliable, and when the wrap's accompanying cloth sleeve is placed on the injured area first, the blue therapy wrap rolls on without effort. When left at room temperature, the packs heat up nicely under hot water or in the microwave.

The small sleeve, which is supposed to fit limbs with a circumference of 4 to 10 inches, works well for children and women's arms. Medium, large or extra large would likely be needed for any adult leg or larger limbs.
