Facing Our Risk of Cancer Empowered, the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center and the University of South Florida will hold their third annual conference devoted to hereditary breast and ovarian cancer May 16 and 17 at the Hyatt Regency Tampa.
More than 350 experts, researchers, health care providers, cancer survivors and those at high risk are expected to attend the event.
The keynote speaker will be Jessica Queller, author of the new book "Pretty Is What Changes." In her book, Queller talks about her mother's death from cancer and her own decision to get tested for the BRCA mutation. Queller, a television writer, decided at age 35 to have a double mastectomy to decrease her chances of getting breast cancer.
Experts will discuss the latest research on personalized medicine as it relates to hereditary cancer, the response to chemotherapy in BRCA carriers, and the latest information about breast and ovarian cancer detection and risk reduction, as well as quality of life issues for BRCA carriers.
