TAMPA - A new oak tree stands on the grounds of Mort Elementary, honoring a little girl who once walked the school's halls.
The school held a dedication ceremony for the tree Friday in honor of Tatum Johnson, who was killed in February by a car near her home in Lutz. Tatum attended first grade at Mort.
The tree, donated by a local business, was planted near the school playground and family and friends shared memories of the 7-year-old. Her father said the tree should serve a symbol of hope that children will remain safe.
