NEW PORT RICHEY - Renaissance Academy, a private school for the arts, plans to add a preschool program in August.
The academy's Early Learning Center will be for children ages 3 to 5. The curriculum will include early literacy, early math, music, dance, martial arts, visual arts, Spanish and Chinese.
"There is such a great need for more quality preschool programs in our community," said Janine Caffrey, head of Renaissance Academy.
Enrollment has begun. Caffrey said the academy expects the preschool to have about 45 to 50 students.
She said Renaissance Academy has been planning the preschool for about a year and a half.
The private school, which opened in 2003, already serves 130 students in kindergarten through 12th grade. The school is off Little Road just south of Massachusetts Avenue at 8431 Corporate Way in New Port Richey.
The preschool's curriculum is designed for an easy transition to Renaissance Academy's K-12 program, but it also stands on its own as a good preschool program regardless of where the children enroll for kindergarten and higher grades, Caffrey said.
