ST. PETERSBURG - An apparent robbery attempt gone awry has left a 15-year-old boy dead and a 34-year-old man charged with murder.
Tony D. Handy suffered a gunshot wound to his upper body and died at the scene, police said. They said Handy and Jameel Grimes were committing a robbery at an upstairs apartment at 124 17th Avenue South when the 9:17 p.m. shooting occurred.
Grimes sustained a non-life threatening gunshot wound and was taken to Bayfront Medical Center, where he was treated and released.
He is charged with first degree murder in connection with the robbery that led to Handy's death, police said.
