TAMPA - Jessie Davis almost did it Friday night at the A La Carte Event Pavilion.

The Jackson, Tenn., boxer nearly lasted a full round with Clearwater's Keith Thurman until a bevy of mean body shots and a punishing right hook dropped the fighter 2:49 into the first round.

"I expected a tough opponent and he was tough," said Thurman (5-0, 5 KOs), who has beaten each of his opponents in the first round. "I was giving him several right hands, straights, body shots and he hung in there. He hung in there longer than anyone else so far."

Derrick Samuels (15-3-1, 4 KOs), in the main event, made even shorter work of Donnel Logan (10-16, 5 KOs) with a crushing right hand, ending the fight 1:21 into the first round.

Ahsandi Gibbs (7-0, 2 KOs) dominated Timothy Hall (4-6, 3 KOs) in their four-round bout, earning a 40-36 unanimous-decision victory. His constant pressure kept Hall along the ropes, defending himself from angry body shots and hooks to the head.

In the night's opening bout, Nicholas Iannuzzi earned a technical knockout of Willie Chisolm after Chisolm's corner stopped the bout in the fourth and final round.

For the bulk of the bout, Iannuzzi (6-0, 4 KOs) used his reach to keep Chisolm (6-4, 3 KOs) away and then picked his spots to let off an assortment of left and right hooks against the shorter fighter. The biggest blow came in the third round when Iannuzzi set Chisolm up with a left jab and rocked him with a right, dropping Chisolm to the canvas.

Two fighters making professional debuts won their bouts. Adwicke Lopez (1-0) used her strength to beat Jenna Shiver (5-3-1, 1 KO) in a four-round unanimous decision. Lopez delivered several solid hooks, including a right in the first round that dislodged Shiver's mouthpiece.

Jason Rorie of Winston-Salem, N.C., collected a four-round split-decision victory, dropping Jesus Mendez (2-1, 1 KO) in the first round.
Carlos Rivera (12-3-2, 4 KOs) earned a unanimous decision victory against Carlos Vinan (7-6-3, 1 KO). Rivera never put Vinan to the canvas despite numerous punishing shots to the head and body.
