LARGO - A 20-month-old boy nearly drowned in an above ground pool this afternoon, the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office said.
Javon Williams was found at the bottom of the pool at his grandmother's house, 9215 83rd Lane N., deputies said. His grandmother, Sherri Lynn Sibilia, 48, pulled Javon out of the water and was instructed in cardiopulmonary resuscitation by a 911 dispatcher.
According to deputies, this is what happened about 10:30 a.m.:
Sibilia was watching three of her grandchildren through a window as they played outside her house. She began rinsing her hair in a sink near the window and when she next checked on the children, she noticed that Javon was missing.
Sibilia checked the yard and saw that the ladder to the above-ground pool had fallen over. She saw her grandchild at the bottom of the pool.
Javon was taken by ambulance to All Children's Hospital in St. Petersburg with injuries that were not life-threatening, the sheriff's office said.
