LAKELAND - One of the eight teens charged in the Polk County video beating case is back in jail after a Tuesday arrest, Polk County jail records show.
Stephen Schumaker, 18, was arrested on a charge of driving with a suspended license. He's being held in the Polk County jail without bond.
A deputy pulled Schumaker over south of Lakeland after he failed to stop at a stop sign, a Polk sheriff's arrest report said. He was also found to be speeding and not wearing seat belt, the report said.
All eight defendants had been free on bond and on house arrest pending trial in the kidnapping and beating of 16-year-old Victoria Lindsay. Six teen girls are accused of directly attacking Lindsay in late March, while Schumaker and another boy are accused of acting as lookouts and not allowing her to leave the house where the beating took place. All eight have been charged with kidnapping and misdemeanor battery.
The case became a sensation when it was reported that some the girls filmed the attack and planned to post it on the Internet. The Polk sheriff's office released an excerpt of the videotape of the beating, which was viewed around the world.
All eight defendants are scheduled for a status conference on May 30. No trial dates have been set.
