More Do-Ragging On The Terry Cloth And Say, Teach, How's Tricks?

Published: May 18, 2008

My, my, my, some of you were more wadded than a Gordian knot over a column last week on the sentencing of Nick Bollea, the unfortunate son of Terry Bollea, aka Hulk Hogan, the village idiot of Belleair.

Young master Bollea will spend the next eight months in the Pinellas County hoosegow for his role in the traffic accident, which has left his friend, Marine and Iraq War veteran John Graziano, in a brain-damaged, semiconscious condition.

The column took issue with young Bollea's immaturity during visits to the hospital - skateboarding in the hallways - as well his declasse father's insistence on wearing what amounted to a "formal" black do-rag in a court of law during his lad's sentencing hearing.

Gracious, Jed Clampett had more savoir-faire. And that prompted some of you dear readers to take umbrage.

"Daniel, it's a pity there isn't a third cell to put you in for writing this wretched hate-filled trash," wrote Bryan1988 in an obvious effort to butter me up. "Is this is what passes for journalism in Tampa?"

Yes, as a matter of fact it is. If you want to get even more annoyed, you can read the rest of my columns for the past few months on TBO.com. Bon appetit!

Quick Detour: Cha-grins On The Web

Oh, that reminds me, memo to alneri: You're quite wrong, a recent column on coo-coo-ca-choo teacher Stephanie Ragusa is indeed available right there on the TBO.com Web site. It ran May 1 under the headline: "Don't Grin And Bear It." Hope you enjoy reading it again.

Back To Our Regularly Scheduled Rant

"What gives you the right to decide how the way one dresses is good or bad, or otherwise?" fumed Shuffle1.

What gives me the right to take note of Hulk Hogan's disrespect for a court of law by showing up essentially in costume? Uh, it's called the First Amendment. It's all the rage.

Then again I wasn't completely all alone in taking note of the Hulkster's cheesy fashion statement.

"Hulk wore his black do-rag to court for religious reasons," noted Seer. "He's an observant member of the First Church of Stupidity."

And finally, ExNJBoy can have the last word on the Bollea soap opera.

"Here is the tragedy, for the better part of two seasons, the Bolleas were encouraged to make fools of themselves on VH1, getting paid for being real-life sleazes," ExNJBoy wrote. "The fact is, unlike many people, the Bolleas/Hogans are finally having to face up to the consequences of stupidity and arrogance."

Too true, too true.

Tricks Aren't For Kids, Apparently

On the topic of Jim Piculas, a Pasco County public school teacher who was accused of committing "wizardry" and canned after a student took offense at a silly magic trick Piculas performed in the classroom, several incredulous readers weighed in.

"Amazing that in 2008 such Third World Stone Age mentalities exist at all, let alone within our own borders," wrote pacfandave, adding: "Even more stupefying is that they have metastasized within our public schools."

"How dare a teacher actually give something, actually teach something that might get children to think on their own instead of regurgitating information back on a test and then forgetting about it," mused Deborahom. "Sarcasm alert."

I think we picked up on that, Deb.
