After residents called about hearing gunshots, Manatee County deputies followed a block-long blood trail, eventually finding a shooting victim passed out in the front yard of a home.
Just after midnight, deputies says, Javier Gutierrez, 24, was walking home from El Paisano's Bar when he was robbed and shot by a black male with an AK-47.
A witness reported hearing gun shots about 12:25 a.m. from the area of 1200 block of 59th Ave. E. A responding deputy found a blood trial, and found Gutierrez in front of 5913 13th St. E.
Neighbor Andre Ackerman, 21, who was outside, called 911.
Before being flown to Bayfront Medical Center, Gutierrez told deputies a black male, wearing a green hat and carrying an AK-47, confronted him and took his wallet, deputies said.
Gutierrez suffered one gunshot to his stomach and one to his left forearm. He is listed in stable condition.
