ST. PETERSBURG At least 15 people were evacuated from an apartment complex tonight when heavy smoke was seen billowing from a vacant unit, fire officials said.
St. Petersburg Fire & Rescue responded at 7:07 p.m. to the two-alarm fire at Sable Point Apartments, 5572 22nd St. S.
The fire quickly spread from Apt. No. 1906 through a window and an attic space to the unit above, Pinellas County deputy fire marshal Joel S. Granata said. The flames were extinguished in less than 25 minutes, he said.
No injuries were reported and the evacuees were able to return to their apartments, fire officials said. No damage estimates were available tonight. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
