TAMPA - Presidential hopeful Barack Obama is coming to town Wednesday, and a few of the free tickets are still available.
The rally will be at the St. Pete Times Forum on Channelside Drive and will begin at noon. The doors will open at 10:30 a.m.
"We don't have hardly any left," said Michael Steinberg, chairman of the Hillsborough County Democratic Executive Committee. "All of the ones you could get on the Internet are gone.
"We are expecting a sellout at the St. Pete Times Forum," he said this morning. "There may be only a couple of hundred left."
The venue has 19,500 seats, not including floor seating. Obama drew 72,000 people to a rally this weekend in Portland, Ore.
"I call it the Miley Cyrus effect," Steinberg said of the large crowds drawn to the likely Democratic nominee.
The remaining tickets are available only at party headquarters, 4221 N. Himes Ave., Suite 100. Only two tickets per person will be handed out, he said.
More than a year ago, when Obama was not riding as high, he surprised local politicos by drawing about 2,000 people to a $25-a-person event in Ybor City.
He hasn't been in the Tampa Bay area since.
Wednesday's event will be the first day of a three-day Florida tour for Obama.
The Hillsborough County Democratic Party's Web site says the event is open to the public and free, although tickets are required to attend.
Tickets are first come, first served, the Web site states.
