Clearwater Man Dies After Being Shot, Crashing, Police Say

A man driving in this car was shot this morning, crashed into a tree and then pronounced dead at a hospital.

CLEARWATER A man driving a car was shot this morning, crashed into a tree and was pronounced dead at an area hospital, police said.

He was identified this afternoon as Arthur Bennett, 62, of 1408 Alpine Road, No. 3, Clearwater.

Investigators do not think the shooting was random. They think Bennett had an argument with someone, though they do not know who.

Authorities received reports of the incident on Douglas Avenue, west of Overbrook Avenue, about 7:45 a.m., said Elizabeth Daly-Watts, spokeswoman for Clearwater's public safety departments.

Investigators are looking for a man seen in the area at the time of the shooting. They describe him as a person who may have information about what happened, and put together a composite sketch which they are distributing in the hopes of identifying him.
